1862 Infanterieoberleutnant und sein Offiziersputz im Quartier der 23 Infanterie von New York, das Einzelzelt für Offiziere war relativ bequem mit einem Bett, Tisch und Stühlen ausgestattet, der Bursche schlief im Mannschaftszelt. Bei diesem Bild vergisst man fast, dass ein schrecklicher Krieg tobte:

Richmond war Hauptstadt der Konföderation, daher strategisch auch sehr umkämpft so wie Washington D.C. Als Richmond fiel war die Stadt komplett zerstört, wie unten auf dem Bild zu sehen ist. Richmond löste Montgomery/Alabama als Hauptstadt ab, nach Richmond wurde für ca. 1 Woche Danville/Virginia Hauptstadt.
